Experience
I've been creating software professionally for many years, and wrote my first program when I was about 12. I've programmed in the mainframe, minicomputer, PC, client/server, and web environments and in over 20 different programming languages from APL to Visual Basic.
Ability
Of course, just racking up time in a job is no guarantee of ability. I have a track record for getting projects completed on time, coming up with innovative ideas, and communicating with others. I pick up new skills quickly. While there are areas I consider myself an expert in (like Java and Oracle), I am a generalist, not a specialist.
Conviction
I strongly believe that a small team of developers with an agile, iterative process can be more effective than a large team with a heavy-weight process. "Best Practices" in software development are constantly evolving as our tools and environments change, and techniques are rarely "one size fits all". I try to stay informed about what works well and under what conditions, while ignoring the constant drum-beat of marketing hype. I believe in honesty in dealing with clients (and everyone else too).
Humility
We all know that some people just insist on having things their way. I'm not like that. Sure, I have opinions about what I think works and doesn't work, and obviously I'd rather work in an environment where others agree with me. But software development is a team effort, and for a team to gel, the members need to be able to reach a consensus on issues.
